Following its foundation in 1979, SITEMA developed the first system worldwide for hydraulic elevators generating the necessary high braking forces directly at the surface of the lifting cylinder shaft. This new technology formed the basis for perfecting clamping devices for a wide range of tasks. Then as now, we go by the rule: absolute functional safety.

Safety catchers are used where protection of personnel and accident prevention must be achieved in connection with raised loads or tools in case of failure of load-bearing machine parts. This may be e.g. a leakage or breakdown of a hydraulic or pneumatic pressure system. Safety catchers catch falling masses infinitely variably at any position of the stroke in a mechanically secure and absolutely reliable manner. With the design principle of the self-reinforcing clamping, you can reach an extremely high safety level of your machines.

SITEMA safety catchers are approved as mechanical restraint devices in hydraulic presses according to standard DIN EN 693.

Safety brakes are not only suitable for statically holding a vertically moving mass against gravity, but can act as an emergency brake for a free-falling machine axis. The braking action is powerful, but there is also a well-defined upper limit for the force. Typical areas of use are on inclined and vertical axes of handling devices or machine tools.

With this pneumatic solution, you can secure your loads in a reliable and cost efficient way. SITEMA Safety Brakes are DGUV certified as mechanical restraint device in presses.

Like safety catchers, the compact-built safety locks are used to safely hold raised loads. However, in contrast to safety catchers, safety locks are not suitable for braking falling masses and absorbing their kinetic energy. On the other hand, generating the full holding force requires only a very short distance, which means a Safety Lock can also be used to fix the position of a load.

In this way, you can e.g. reduce your energy costs, as the use of a safety lock permits switching off hydraulic or pneumatic cylinders used to hold a position.

Locking units can hold forces in either axial direction of the rod. They therefore allow mechanical interlocking and precise positioning in a wide range of machine and plant components. The clamping with the majority of types is engaged by means of spring force, while hydraulic or pneumatic pressure is needed to release the locking device. Depending on type and size, you can achieve holding forces up to 150 tons on rods of 10 to 250 mm in diameter.

SITEMA locking units are also available with DGUV approval for presses, for maritime applications as a series approved by Lloyd's Register, as an "outdoor" variant for use in humid environment, as a special version for machine tools, to name but a few.

The SITEMA PowerStroke is used everywhere you need high forces to be built up over short working distances. By using the PowerStroke, the strong working stroke and the fast opening or closing stroke can be separated and optimized. This allows for high savings in energy, a compact construction, and an increase in productivity. Typical applications are mold presses, injection molding machines, vacuum presses, welding presses, test rigs, etc.

Basically, the SITEMA PowerStroke works like a cylinder that grips its rod only in the moment the high forces are needed. The hydraulic version creates forces up to 180 tons over a stroke of 20 mm, the pneumatic version creates forces of up to 3 tons over a stroke of 12 mm.

Electropneumatic module EPM

The Electropneumatic Module EPM acts as interface between (electrical) power supply / control and a pneumatic SITEMA clamping head. All pneumatic SITEMA clamping heads with an operating pressure of up to 4 bar and an operating volume of up to 220 cm³ can be pneumatically controlled by the EPM. It is also possible to operate several clamping heads in parallel with one EPM.

In this way, it is possible to secure loads of up to 13 tons by using only electric control with the proven and reliable SITEMA clamping heads.
