The flagship product from the MDESIGN software family, now in its 13th version, has a completely revamped graphical interface. Based on Microsoft© Office, the user will find that he quickly and intuitively becomes familiar with the format. All of the primary range of functions are easily accessible and are displayed in a self-explanatory manner using clear and structured imagery.

In formulating the new MDESIGN 2010, alongside the substantive revision of the content and the extension of information pages and manufacturer’s catalogues, great importance was attached to extending and updating the calculation modules – the software’s central foundation.

For instance, in modules for calculating angular wheels, pressure springs and tension springs, the user will now find a completely new edition of software, which consists of (amongst other features) new 3D views.

What is more, MDESIGN 2010 comprises not only a great number of formulae-collating modules, but also international labelling of material features, as well as numerous optimisations within calculation and interpretation processes.

A further important innovative feature is the ability to save in PDF/A format - a standard PDF format that ensures long-term readability and availability of archived documents. 

In addition, MDESIGN users can now continue to be informed about the availability of specific components using the direct link in MDESIGN to online resources such as the Roloff/Matek Bauteilkatalog (Roloff/Matek parts catalogue).

In respect of content, the following improvements to MDESIGN 2010 are most worth noting:

• Pressure springs and tension springs: new calculation modules based on DIN 13906 and DIN 10270 for material features. These replace the previous calculation modules based on DIN 2089.
• Bolt calculations based on VDI 2230: updated calculation modules.
• Welding seam calculation: revised module.
• Angular wheels: revised module, including brand new geometrical evaluation for hypoid wheels based on ISO 23509.
• Bearing calculations: updated calculation module. Bearing dimensions set by the user can be supplemented and changed directly through the MDESIGN user prompts. The new graphical input assistant facilitates the modelling of structured bearings. Cross-sectional areas set by the user can now also be defined and displayed more precisely.
• Material features: international labelling of materials is now also displayed.
• The section entitled “Formulae Collection” is complemented with 13 new calculations from the physics section. This section is now named “Formulae and Tables” and comprises a further range of tables and databases.

Furthermore, MDESIGN 2010 comprises a number of entirely new contents in the Construction Forum section and an update of the standards overview.
